Quality control of a global hourly rainfall dataset

چکیده
Sub-daily rainfall observations are vital to help us understand, model and adapt changing climate extremes. However, gauge records often have quality issues, for example due equipment malfunctions recording errors. This paper presents a new, open-source control algorithm (GSDR-QC) identify these issues in hourly data, along with an application of the Global Sub-Daily Rainfall (GSDR) observational dataset. The is based on 25 checks, which combined into simple rule base remove suspicious data. checks adaptable incorporate local or regional information. Comparison manually quality-controlled data shows that procedure results overall improvement GSDR A UK case study further demonstrates performance GSDR-QC procedure, while showing how region-specific understanding can be incorporated process.
